Matthews, NC - Top Spots

If you’ve ever taken a drive to downtown Matthews, you know exactly why this town has a special place in my heart. Matthews is where small-town charm meets a growing food scene. If you haven’t spent a day checking out some locally-owned gems, here are a few of my favorites below! Also, be sure to check out the Matthew’s Farmers Market on Saturday- it’s delightful!

This coffee shop has some history! Located in an old home that has been around since 1904. Definitely check out the origin story on their website. Brakeman’s is known for its cozy, inviting atmosphere and for encouraging you to take a break from the speed of life. The intention is to slow down, savor, and sip your coffee. I always feel so welcomed here. This is a must-visit in downtown Matthews!

2. Loyalist Market

When I think of Loyalist Market, I think of tasty local cheeses, sourdough bread, and mouthwatering sandwiches! This is a go-to of mine for lunch with a friend—especially on a sunny day sitting on the patio. You’ll find it filled with locals enjoying soup, salad, sammies, and a glass of wine or kombucha. Warm and cozy vibes all the way!

3. One Tapas and Bar

I am so grateful I found The One last year! I was absolutely shocked by this restaurant because it is 100% a hidden gem. It’s tucked away in a shopping center that has a Harris Teeter and is completely unexpected. This is a wine bar serving up some next-level, all-world tapas. There are about 7-9 tables in the restaurant and bar seating, making it feel even more exclusive. The atmosphere is sleek, chic, and perfect for a girls' night out. Definitely give the espresso martini a try—one of the best in town!

4. Curry Gate

Curry Gate in Matthews is NOW open!! Yay! I have fallen in love with the Indian/Nepali cuisine at this restaurant. One thing is for certain—they are adamant about putting love into the food and the quality of ingredients. I love the fresh herbs, depth of flavor, and traditional recipes. They offer plenty of gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options. This is a great addition to the neighborhood!

5. Kebab-Je

I will never forget my first experience at Kabab-Je! I fell in love with the hummus and musakaa! This restaurant specializes in Lebanese & Mediterranean cuisine. Of course, everything is made in-house. The kabobs are grilled over charcoal, giving them a smoky char that is absolutely perfect—you are in for a treat!

6. Seaboard Brewing

I couldn’t leave Seaboard off the list! A staple in downtown Matthews, loved by all the locals. This is a brewery, taproom, and wine room all wrapped up into one. They have some incredibly unique wines, along with a pizza shop right on the patio. It’s called Exchange Pizza Depot, and they crank out some crazy good pies! Grab your family, a date, or a group of friends—this spot is literally ideal for any occasion!
