Wesley Heights Favorites to Explore

Just west of Uptown, Wesley Heights is one of Charlotte’s fastest growing neighborhoods. Known for its historic bungalows, skyline views, and buzzin’ local businesses, it has easily become a sneaky awesome neighborhood. Whether you’re craving the perfect cup of coffee, a slice of heavenly pizza or some of the most delicious Mexican in Charlotte- Wesley Heights is consistently on the rise!

Rhino is that neighborhood spot where you can grab a killer sandwich, sip on local craft beer, and chill with friends. It’s locally owned and a go-to for made-to-order deli sammies and insanely delicious breakfast. It has a super laid-back vibe that makes you want to hang out for a bit. A staple in the neighborhood for coffee, breakfast, and lunch!

Legion is without a doubt one of the most respected breweries in Charlotte. The owner has such a passion for bringing friends together in a space where you feel right at home! They will forever and always have one of my favorite beers—Juicy Jay—and their food is as quality as it gets. You will be blown away by their deeeelicious menu created for sharing and enjoying with the ones you love. House-made buttermilk beer rolls with beer cheese and pimiento butter, LOCAL grass-fed burgers, gluten-free pork carnitas tacos…I mean wow. They even have gluten-free menus for their guests! This brewery and team are incredible.

This local coffee shop has blown up this year with all the love from the Where to Eat Charlotte community! Owners Joe & Laura Youannas are dedicated to creating a space that feels like everyone’s second home. The coffee is smooth, the food is some of the tastiest coffee shop eats you will find in Charlotte (and my fav breakfast sandwich!!!), and now they just hired a full-time pastry chef who was apparently born a star! Great coffee shop for getting work done or meeting up with friends!

MAS is bringing some HEAT to Wesley Heights with fresh, traditional Mexican. I didn’t even know this gem existed until a few months ago, and it is one of the top Mexican meals I have had since moving to Charlotte. It’s a full-on experience—from the margaritas and cocktails crafted with fresh-squeezed citrus and house-made everything to the presentation of the chips & traditional salsas that were showcased. I could go on about this restaurant, but just go experience it for yourself. Oh, and the best tres leches you will find…ever.

5. Pizza Baby

Pizza Baby has quickly become a Charlotte local favorite. This restaurant stays true to craftsmanship and quality, that’s for sure. They do a cold fermentation with their dough, allowing the yeast to work more slowly, creating a deeper flavor and making it easier to digest. They serve up NY slices, sandwiches, salads, and more. Also, they are a seed-oil-free kitchen, which is a HUGE bonus!

One of the only true farm-to-table restaurants we have in Charlotte. The menu is ever-changing, seasonal, and deeply personal. Chef and owner Sam Diminich is extremely committed to highlighting the real MVPs—the farmers. Each dish represents the heart and soul of the NC soil, climate, and love that was needed to grow such beautiful vegetables. This restaurant is very intimate, charming, and worth the wait. I also love the intentionality of the NA beverage program!
